"Beginning January 1, 2008, the OPPS implemented OCE edits that require hospitals to include a HCPCS code for a radiolabeled product when a separately payable nuclear medicine procedure is present on a claim. Therefore, hospitals should include a diagnostic radiopharmaceutical, therapeutic radiopharmaceutical, or brachytherapy source HCPCS code on the same claim as a nuclear medicine procedure for services provided beginning on January 1, 2008 in order to receive payment for the nuclear medicine procedure. "

"NOTE: We expect that the majority of nuclear medicine procedure claims will include a HCPCS code for diagnostic radiopharmacetuical. While we understand that this is not always the case, we believe that alternative situations are uncommon, and we will be monitoring claims data to ensure that this is the case."

"The tab ""Procedure Codes"" includes a listing of all nuclear medicine procedure codes that are required to have a radiolabeled product present on the same claim in order for the claim to process in the OCE."

"The tab ""Radiolabeled Products"" includes a listing of all diagnostic radiopharmaceutical, therapeutic radiopharmaceutical, and brachytherapy source HCPCS codes. In order for a nuclear medicine claim with a HCPCS code listed in the ""Procedure Codes"" tab to process in the OCE, at least one of these radiolabeled product codes must be present on the same claim.
